Parish of Penarth and Llandough

Reg Charity no

St Augustine’s has long been known for its strong music tradition both for its choir and for the concerts which are regularly held in the church. Our choir leads the singing in our services and also performs in occasional concerts and events through the year. We have lost several members of our choir over the past few years and are looking to reinvigorate it.

We are offering four scholarships worth £500 each to suitable female students with good voices. The scholarships last initially for a year and there is no stipulation as to what the money can be used for but ideally students would use it to buy music or finance music lessons. Students should be in the  age range of 16-21 and the award is subject to a successful audition.

Successful applicants would be required to sing at the Sunday morning service at 10.45am (preceded by a choir practice at 9.45am) as part of the choir and, if they wish, to sing occasional solos. We hope to start the scheme as soon as Church in Wales Covid-19 restrictions allow - possibly in the Autumn this year or early in 2022.

Our Choirmaster and Organist is Mr Robert Court, who is a University Organist & Tutor Cardiff University. He is very experienced and has lots of connections to choirs in the surrounding area.
